ABOUT US

Founder and Artist Ingrid Marie Harbour shares her “why” behind starting a face painting business:

A TREASURED MEMORY

As a child, my parents took me to our local carnival in October.

To match my Halloween costume (a cat ballerina!), the face painter gave me my first face painting, a cat nose and whiskers.

As the cold brush strokes of black paint landed on my face, and I stared at the artist in wonder, I thought, “Someday, I’ll do this!”

SUPPLY AND DEMAND

As a kid, I loved experimenting with beauty makeup and the transformative experience of wearing face paint on Halloween.

In middle school, I became our theater group's go-to Make Up Artist (MUA) and applied Ben Nye makeup to any player who asked. Acting!

In high school, I was frequently asked to be my friend’s MUA before attending school dances and taking professional photos— I was then hired to do hairstyles and makeup for two weddings.

Halloween has always been a favorite opportunity to use face and body paints to transform into a character, whether it's myself, my friends, or my family!

GIVING BACK

While living in Brooklyn, NY in 2009, as part of the Artist Access program (an innovative way for Brooklyn artists to exchange their artistic talents for health insurance) at Woodhull Medical Center and Cumberland Diagnostic Center.

They needed a face painter, so I signed up! It was rewarding to paint children’s faces—seeing them transform and light up with joy was not only great fun, it steered them from the seriousness of their hospital visit.

One problem I encountered was cheap face paints not showing up on the diverse skin tones, so I bought my first professional palette to fix this. It worked!

The social impact of sharing temporary art with the public brings me happiness.

GOING FOR IT

Encouraged by positive feedback, I began offering face painting at community centers, after-school and camp programs, public schools, and special events, such as birthday parties, festivals, street fairs, and block parties, in NYC and now in Central NJ.

Now, several years into serving my community, I created PTL BRSH Face & Body Art to distinguish these unique business activities from my fine arts endeavors.

PTL BRSH may team up with other face painters and body painters who demonstrate quality designs and professionalism, if more than one artist is needed for a job.

This ensures each customer experience meets the highest standards possible.
